Crawled – currently not indexed: what it means and how to fix it (2026)

Google Search Console indexing and coverage dashboard

«Crawled – currently not indexed» means Googlebot visited the URL but chose not to add it to the index. It is not a robots block or a 404: it is a quality, demand or crawl-budget signal. Fix it by strengthening unique content and internal links — not by mass-requesting URL Inspection.

Crawled vs Discovered – currently not indexed

GSC statusWhat happenedTypical priority
Crawled – not indexedBot visited; decided not to indexQuality, duplication, linking
Discovered – not indexedURL known; no useful crawl yetDiscovery, sitemap, authority
Page with redirectURL redirects (e.g. legacy → canonical)Normal if the 301 is correct

Mixing both statuses in one backlog slows decisions: crawled needs editorial/technical review of the page; discovered needs better discovery and priority signals.

Real case: seo.denvora.io (August 2026)

  • 9 indexed pages vs 28 not indexed (GSC Pages card).
  • 22 under «Crawled – currently not indexed» (up vs W30).
  • 6 «Page with redirect» — expected during inovaroseo.com → seo.denvora.io migration.
  • 30-day performance (engine): 56 impressions, 1 click, ~1.8% CTR, ~13.8 average position.

On young or post-cutover SaaS sites, Google crawls many URLs (blog, pricing, subscribe, pillars) and only indexes those it deems worth the demand. The goal is not to zero the «not indexed» card — it is to get business URLs (home, pillars, anchor articles) in and keep them there.

Checklist before requesting URL Inspection

  1. Clear intent — H1 + opening paragraph answer a distinct intent (avoid cannibalising home or another post).
  2. Internal links — at least 2–3 links from already indexed pages (home, pillars, blog index).
  3. Sitemap + lastmod — URL in sitemap.xml with a fresh date; submit only the canonical map.
  4. No soft-404 — substantive content; not empty templates or CTAs alone.
  5. Correct canonical — self-canonical on the canonical host; 301s from legacy.
  6. Prioritise 5–10 URLs — request inspection only for those; the rest waits for stronger linking.

What not to do

  • Request «Index» on dozens of URLs the same day — it does not force quality.
  • Publish more thin pages while anchors are still crawled-not-indexed.
  • Assume lab LCP alone explains the status — it helps, but relevance + demand dominate.

How to monitor in the product

In Search Console, use Indexing → Pages → «Why pages aren't indexed». In multi-client GSC reporting (DENVORA SEO), track coverage and prioritise URLs with impressions but 0% CTR in parallel — the business problem is often the snippet, not only indexing. Trial: free 14 days.

Frequently asked questions

What does Crawled – currently not indexed mean?
It means Googlebot crawled (visited) the page but decided not to include it in the search index. Unlike a robots.txt block or a 404, the page is reachable — Google simply does not yet consider it worth indexing given quality, demand or crawl budget. Fix it with unique content, internal links and consolidation — not mass URL Inspection requests.
How is it different from Discovered – currently not indexed?
With Discovered, Google knows the URL (sitemap or link) but has not done a useful crawl yet. With Crawled, it already visited and declined to index. Discovered needs better discovery and priority signals; Crawled needs editorial/technical review plus stronger links from already indexed URLs.
Should I request URL Inspection on every crawled-not-indexed page?
No. Prioritise 5–10 business URLs (home, pillars, anchor articles), confirm internal linking and sitemap lastmod, then request inspection only for those. Mass requests the same day rarely force indexing and burn the daily quota without fixing the root cause.
Do redirects count as “not indexed”?
Yes on the not-indexed card, under «Page with redirect». If the 301 points to the correct canonical host (e.g. inovaroseo.com → seo.denvora.io), that is expected during migration — do not treat those URLs as a content failure.
